Dale Reisner is the new president of the Washington State Medical Association (WSMA). The industry group, which represents physicians, residents and medical students, elected her to the position Sept. 28. Reisner is a Seattle-based maternal-fetal physician at Swedish Medical Center . She succeeds Dr. Nick Rajacich , a Tacoma physician who will remain on the executive committeeas board. In her new role, Reisner will give voice to the interests of physicians and their perspective on what makes for safest patient care. aPhysicians are facing some significant challenges as health care reforms are implemented in our state,a said Reisner in a statement. aWe must remain committed to improving access to quality, safe care for our patients and to continue to have a strong voice as decisions are being made that impact the practice of medicine and care of our patients.a Reisner will be taking her post at a time when a number of critical questions remain for Washington doctors, including: a Will the state have enough doctors contracted with Medicaid and health exchange plans to handle the anticipated influx of patients through the Affordable Care Act? a Will Congress finally fix a flawed Medicare payment system, called the sustainable growth formula , which continues to threaten physician revenues? a As hospital systems continue to merge and affiliate, will independent physician practices be able to survive and compete?
